VIRTUAL ASSISTANT HELP: What I would do differently starting out as a Virtual Assistant today!

If I had to start my business in the online space again today as a Virtual Assistant, there are a few things I would do a bit differently today.

When I first started as a Virtual Assistant I spent a lot of time learning and setting up systems I thought were going to benefit me in the long run. Sadly some of these systems were a bit of a time-waster and I really should have gone with a different system. I also thought doing some things manually to save money was the way to go which in reality caused more of a headache. From the get-go, I should have laid a better foundation in my business from the beginning and paid for some systems from the start.

So if I were to start my Virtual Assistant business again I want to share the top things I would do differently now. Keep in my these are just my opinions I am sharing, take them in, do your research and make your own decision if this advice is something you would like to use in your own business. Of course, if you have any questions, feel free to email me at hello@misssamanthaelizabeth.com.

I would create my Virtual Assistant website using Squarespace instead of WordPress!

Don't get me wrong, WordPress is a super powerful website platform. I am not an SEO expert, but word on the street is that having a website through WordPress is better for SEO performance. WordPress has been around for longer and it is more robust than Squarespace so this very well can be true and probably is.

Systematize Your Business With the Right Systems

to allow you to streamline your the back end of your business with ease!

However, the reasoning for me choosing Squarespace over WordPress if I were to start my business over again, is simply that Squarespace is much quicker to set up a simple website, easier to learn, easy to integrate with other systems and I have found less chance of breaking the site with coding especially if you aren't an expert at web design.

I am glad I was able to WordPress through trial and error and teaching myself through Youtube videos. But to be honest it was a big waste of time, especially since I was not trying to be a Web Designer. It certainly helped me with a few of my clients that also had a WordPress site. However, it felt like a big time-waster in the long run. In my opinion, I would have much rather become a Squarespace expert, as that system is much easier to use.

I would avoid manually invoicing with PayPal or Stripe and set up Dubsado CRM from the start!

When you are first starting out as a Virtual Assistant, or really any business for that matter, you do not want to start paying for every possible system when you only have 1 client. However, for invoicing I really wish I implemented a CRM such as Dubsado from the start. Mostly because once I started to get my name out there and I got my 2nd, 3rd or 4th client, I did not have the time to properly implement a CRM to help me with invoicing, sending of contracts and automatic emails.

If I were to have a system like Dubsado set up right from the get-go, I would have been able to have an automatic workflow set up already to help me, onboard new clients, with ease.

However since I did not set it up right away, I spent a lot of my free time, once a had a handful of clients, setting up the system to send automatic invoices, emails and keep track of contracts and more!

I would build a workflow for content creation so content gets repurposed regularly!

It is hard to be actively posting on so many Social Media platforms in terms of time, creativity and consistency. That is why if I were to start my Virtual Assistant business over again I would create a repeatable workflow of how I create my content.

For example, I would plan to record 1 Youtube video every other week and then repurpose that video into an email blast, blog post, social media post and Pinterest graphic. This way I have a consistent workflow of content coming out across various platforms. Also this way, I do not always have to have my creative wheels turning as once a Youtube video is recorded it can just be repurposed into different forms of content.
